WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE YOUR AE-10
  • AE-10
  • AC adaptor
  • USB cable
    * The update is carried out with the unit and the computer connected via USB.
Provide a cable suitable for connection to the computer you're using.
  • Computer (Windows or Mac) equipped with a USB port compliant with USB 2.0 or USB 3.0

CAUTION WHEN PERFORMING THE UPDATE
  • Never apply this update data to any product other than the AE-10. This update data may destroy the data or system program of other products.
  • Never power-off your AE-10 while the update is in progress!
If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the AE-10 won’t be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs.
  • We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update procedure using this system program. Please perform the update responsibly, following the directions given in this document.

GETTING THE UPDATE FILE
Please open/extract the downloaded "ae10_sys_v310.zip" file on your computer to get the update file in the "ae10_sys_v310" folder.

PROCEDURE FOR THE UPDATE
Caution
  • Performing an update initializes all setting values made using system settings. Refer to the Owner's Manual and make a written note of the settings.
  • You must not rename the extracted file.
  • When performing an update, be sure to connect the AC adaptor included with the AE-10.
  • Never turn off the AE-10's power while the update is in progress. Otherwise the system program or the AE-10 itself may be destroyed.

Please install the extracted system program file into your AE-10 according to the following procedure.

Step 1: Update the Aerophone AE-10 to Version 3.00
  1. Connect the computer to the AE-10's USB port by a USB cable.
  2. Hold down the octave key [ -2 ] button and turn on the power.
On the display, the message "Updater" appears, after which the message "Waiting." appears.
  3. Open the "AE-10" drive folder in your personal computer.
  4. Copy ae10_up.bin in the "ae10_sys_v310" folder into the "AE-10" drive by dragging and dropping it.
    * Do not copy the "ae10_sys_v310" folder.
  5. After copying the file is completed, remove the USB drive from the personal computer.
    With Windows
Right-click on the "AE-10" icon in My Computer and execute "Eject."
    With Mac
Drag the "AE-10" icon to the Trash icon in the Dock.

    * Depending on the computing setup you're using, ejecting the USB drive might cause the update to start. If this happens, wait for the message "Finished" to appear on the display before disconnecting the USB cable.
  6. Disconnect the USB cable.
The update starts automatically. The update takes approximately 1 minute.
    * Never switch off the power while the update is in progress.
When Finished is shown, the update has finished.
  7. Turn the AE-10 power off.

If the unit you're using was at "Ver. 2.**" before the update, then the update procedure is complete. You can now use the unit at version 3.00.
If the unit you're using was at "Ver. 1.**" before the update, continue by carrying out the procedure in "Step 2: Return Settings to Their Factory-default Values (Factory Reset)."

Step 2: Return Settings to Their Factory-default Values (Factory Reset)
* Executing a factory reset while the system is at version 1.** causes all user tone settings to be initialized.
* In Ver.2.00 and later, the factory reset operation (FctReset) only resets the system settings, and does not clear the user tones.

  1. Hold down the [MENU] button and turn on the power.
    "FctReset" appears on the display.
  2. To execute the factory reset, press the right-arrow (Y) button.
When the message "END" appears on the display, the factory reset is complete.
  3. Turn on the power.
Refer to "Check what version you're using" and confirm that the version has been updated to show "Ver.3.00."
