GP-6 System Program (Ver.1.06)

How to know the version

Before you start, check the system program version of your GP-6.

Press the [] (Settings) button.
Press the [+][-] buttons and select "Version"
Press the [] (Enter) button.
The version information is displayed.
* If this shows the latest version (version 1.06 or later), there's no need to update your GP-6.
Press the [] (Settings) button.

Bug Fixes
The following bugs were fixed.

The problem has been corrected in which saved Registration/Piano Tone Edit settings return to default values at startup.
The problem has been corrected in which an error occurs when a Registration is loaded from a USB flash drive.
The problem has been corrected in which sound stops playing when pedal functioning is set to "Layer".
The problem has been corrected in which the file extension becomes ".WAV" when the name of an MP3-format song is changed.

Additional Functions

A muffler pedal function has been added.
Depressing the center pedal when upright piano tone has been selected lets you switch to and enjoy the sound of a felt piano.
*1 The default value of the "Center Pedal" setting changes from "Sostenuto" to "Muffler/sostenuto".
*2 If the value of the "Center Pedal" setting you're using is "Sostenuto", it changes to "Muffler/sostenuto".
A "Center Pedal Part" setting has been added.
When Keyboard Mode is "Dual" or "Split", you can specify the part that the center pedal operates.

Functionality Improvements

Responsiveness when keys are struck repeatedly in rapid succession has been heightened, enabling play of richer expressiveness.
The precision of volume control during light fingering when Concert Piano or Stage Piano tone has been selected has been heightened, enabling play of richer expressiveness.
Operation when switching tones has been improved.

Bug Fixes
The following bugs were fixed.

The problem has been corrected in which certain operations would produce high-volume noise.
The problem has been corrected in which the Piano Reality Headphones Ambience setting could not be made for the upright piano tone.
The problem has been corrected in which selecting a rhythm pattern of 2 or after with the metronome function makes correct communication with the Roland Piano App impossible.
The problem has been corrected in which simultaneously pressing two Tone buttons when Keyboard Mode is set to "Dual" changes the tone settings for an unselected part.
Other minor bugs.

* The USB flash drive need to be formatted on a GP-6 or formatted to FAT32 or MS-DOS(FAT) on a computer in advance.

Cautions with the update

This update procedure includes a factory reset.
Copy down the setting contents (settings that are saved automatically) and redo the settings after the update procedure.
After this update, you need to carry out a factory reset yourself. At this time, the settings in memory in the GP-6 are returned to their default values, but some data (Registrations/Piano Setups) can be saved on a USB flash drive and restored after. Also, songs stored in internal memory do not disappear, but be sure to save them on a USB flash drive before the update procedure. For details on the procedure, refer to the following sections of the Owner's Manual.

Never power-off your GP-6 while the update is in progress!
If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the GP-6 won't be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs.
We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update procedure using this system program. Please perform the update responsibly, following the directions given in this document.

Downloading and unarchiving the compressed file

Download the update file (gp6_sys_v106.zip).
It is an archive file in zip format, please double click on the file to expand.
After expanding the file, the folder gp6_sys_v106 holding the file R081_UPA.BIN will be appeared.

Procedure for the update

Creating the Update USB Flash Drive

Copy R081_UPA.BIN to the root directory of a USB flash drive.

Update Procedure

Connect the USB flash drive to the USB Memory port on the instrument.
Press down the power button 3 times quickly.
The message " === update === " appears on the display, and the update operation starts.
* When the message " === update === " does not appear on the display and the instrument turns on normally, press and hold the power button to turn off the power and retry the procedure 2 again. Note that try to slow down the speed of pressing down the power button 3 times (press down the power button 3 times in about 2 seconds).
When the message " = update finished. = " appears, the update operation has finished.
* The update operation takes about 3 minutes.
Press and hold the power button to turn off the power.
Detach the USB flash drive from the instrument.
Press the power button to turn on the power.
When the Roland logo shown on the display disappears, press the [](Setting) button.
The[](Setting) button is lit, and the piano is in function mode.
Press the [-] [+] buttons to access the “Factory Reset” screen, and then press the [](Enter) button.
A confirmation message appears.
Press the [-] [+] buttons to select “Yes”, and press the [](Enter) button to execute.
This performs the factory reset.
When the display indicates “Power off, then on”, turn the power off and then on again.

This completes the update operation. The new system program becomes active at startup.

In no event shall Roland Corporation be liable to end-users for any damages whatsoever, including but not limited to financial damages for any loss of profits or information arising from the use of, or inability to use this updater. The foregoing provision is effective even if Roland Corporation has been advised of the possibility of such damages.

This is a legal agreement between you (an individual or a corporation) and Roland Corporation (herein referred to as "Roland") regarding the usage of this software product (herein referred to as "SOFTWARE"). Please read carefully the terms of this License Agreement before installing or using the SOFTWARE. By installing, copying, or starting the use of the SOFTWARE, you hereby consent to the terms of this License Agreement.

1. GRANT OF LICENSE

Roland grants you the following non-exclusive rights to use the SOFTWARE in accordance with the terms of this License Agreement.
(a) You may only use the SOFTWARE on a specific single computer at one time. Use of the SOFTWARE shall include loading the SOFTWARE into temporary memory (i.e., RAM) or installing the SOFTWARE into storage media (i.e., hard disk) of the computer on which you will use the SOFTWARE.
(b) You may make one copy of the SOFTWARE for backup purposes only (on floppy disk, magneto optical disk, DAT or the similar media), but you are prohibited to make any other copy.

2. COPYRIGHT

The SOFTWARE and its copyrights are the property of Roland and are protected by all international copyright laws and treaties.
Therefore, you must treat the SOFTWARE like any other copyrighted material (i.e., a book or a CD). All rights that are not provided for herein are reserved by Roland.

3. OTHER RESTRICTIONS

(a) You shall not modify, change, reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the SOFTWARE and the copyright notice and copyrighted logo.
Unauthorized copying, uploading to another network, distributing, modifying and/or attaching this software to other media or any other sales item is expressly forbidden.
(b) You shall not loan, rent, lease, sublicense or transfer the SOFTWARE, either in whole or in part, to any third party. But you may permanently transfer the SOFTWARE and accompanying printed materials provided you retain no copies of the Software and recipient agrees to the terms of this License Agreement. If the SOFTWARE has been updated or upgraded, any transfer of the SOFTWARE must include the most recent update and all prior versions.
(c) If this SOFTWARE contains multiple templates of media (such as floppy disks and CD-ROM) and these media contain the same software, you may use only the one form of media that is appropriate for your computer. You shall not use the remaining form(s) of media on another computer.
(d) You may not use the Software from multiple locations of a multi-user or networked system at any time.

3.2 Open source software and other third party software
(a) The SOFTWARE may use open source software and other third party software (herein referred to as "OSS, etc.").
(b) The OSS, etc. in the case of the preceding paragraph shall be subject to the OSS, etc. license (herein referred to as "OSS License"), and you shall comply with the OSS License.
(c) If there are any differences between the terms of this License Agreement and the OSS License, the OSS License shall prevail and the terms of this License Agreement shall not apply.

4. NO WARRANTY

Roland makes no warranty, either expressed or implied, with respect to any of the software, including, without limitation, any implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.

5. NO LIABILITY

Roland can not reply to inquiries regarding this system software updater. Please read the instructions completely, and please note that you should use the SOFTWARE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
In no event shall Roland be liable to end-users for any damages whatsoever, including but not limited to financial damages for any loss of profits or information arising from the use of, or inability to use this product. The foregoing provision is effective even if Roland has been advised of the possibility of such damages. Even if the SOFTWARE has any material, verifiable, and reproducible program errors, Roland shall have no liability to modify such errors.

6. TERMINATION OF THE LICENSE

Roland reserves the right to terminate this License Agreement if you fail to comply with any of the terms of this License Agreement. Upon such termination, you shall immediately stop using the SOFTWARE.

7. GENERAL

(a) Any provision of this Agreement which is prohibited or unenforceable in any jurisdiction shall be ineffective to the extent of such prohibition or unenforceability without affecting, impairing or invalidating the remaining provisions hereof.
(b) This License Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of State of California without reference to the principles of conflicts of laws.
