JUPITER-Xm System Program (Ver.3.02)


HOW TO KNOW THE VERSION
Before you start, check the system program version of your JUPITER-Xm.
  1. Press the [MENU] button.
    The MENU screen appears.
  2. Use the [1] knob or the PAGE [Λ] [V] buttons to select “INFORMATION”, then press the [ENTER] button.
    The version information screen appears.
    *If the latest version appears, there is no need to update your JUPITER-Xm.

Additional Functions
  • The model “JUPITER-X” has been newly provided as a preloaded model.
    The model “JUPITER-X” is a new model that takes the model “JUPITER-8” as its motif and is designed with the aim of achieving the ideal analog synthesizer configuration. Through such moves as adoption of four oscillators, seven types of waveform selection, implementation of oscillator pan and oscillator delay, adoption of a variety of velocity sense functions, and more, this provides new vintage synth expressiveness that transcends the boundaries of vintage synths.
  • The functionality of I-ARPEGGIO has been extended.
    • I-ARP TYPE setting values have been increased from 55 to 65 (10 more) and I-ARP RHYTHM setting values have been increased from 44 to 65 (21 more).
    • Mode switching has been added to enable easy switching of simple arpeggios and step sequencers for each individual part.
    • It is now possible to change styles and variations for each individual part by using I-ARP and the ARP mode.
    • A Probability function has been added. This makes it possible to assign a probability to the sound production of each note, and also enables changing its extent through interlinking with I-ARPEGGIO.
  • New preset sound content has been added.
    (New scenes: 80 types, JUPITER-X model tones: 158 types)
    About the new scene and tone data
    When a Factory Reset operation is carried out while you select the “Reset User Data”check box, the new scenes appear from the beginning of scenes. However, this operation also reset scenes and tones you created. So please export any needed scenes and tones before performing the Factory Reset, then reimport the needed scenes and tones afterward. To be safe, we recommend performing a backup operation before carrying out the Factory Reset as well.
  • The number of scenes and the number of user tones have both been increased from 256 to 512.
Functionality Improvement
  • Various improvements to the user interface have been made.
    • When setting parameter values, a value list can now be displayed by pressing the [ENTER] button.
    • The structure of the view displayed when the [MENU] button is pressed has been reorganized.
    • The naming screens for scenes, tones, and the like have been improved.
    • The order of Z-Core Tone parameters has been reorganized.

Additional Functions
  • The Roland Cloud Connect is now supported.
    Purchasing the separately available Roland Cloud Connect (WC-1) makes it possible to connect the JUPITER-Xm and Roland Cloud and directly download added tones via Wi-Fi.

Additional Functions
  • “SINGLE SETUP” has been provided, making it possible to change to the settings for only a single part and play tones. This is useful when selecting and playing individual tones from respective models.
  • “Step recording” has been added for using the keyboard to input notes for individual steps in STEP EDIT.
  • “Real time recording” has been added for recording notes played during playback in STEP EDIT.
Functionality Improvement
  • The display view in the scene select mode has been improved.
  • When selecting parts for a scene, it is now possible to check the settings for the respective parts and to change tones.
  • The interface for operating STEP EDIT has been improved to make it more intuitive.

Bug Fixes
The following bugs were fixed.
  • Fixed a problem in Ver. 1.40 the setting SYSTEM EQ/COMP > MASTER COMP to “ON” caused no sound.
  • The “10 Exciter” and “67 Phonograph” MFX types added in version 1.40 fail to function.
  • When making the “DlyType” setting for “SCENE EFFECT: Dly” or “SYSTEM EFFECT: Dly”, an incorrect setting value can sometimes be selected.

Additional Functions / Functionality Improvements
  • Supports the Roland Cloud content “JD-800 Model Expansion”.
  • MFX types have been added (Phonograph, Exciter, and JD-Multi).
  • SYSTEM/SCENE effect types have been added (Chorus: JV Chorus, Reverb: Gated Reverb).
  • MFX types can now be classified by category.
  • MIDI Control Change (CC) messages are now effective with specific tone parameters.
  • The MODEL RD-PIANO can now also be used with PART 2 through 4.
    *When RD-PIANO is used with a PART from 2 to 4, ordinary MFX is applied instead of the model-specific Sympathetic Resonance effect.
  • TONE values are now also concurrently initialized during SCENE initialization.

Additional Function
  • Import and Export functions for Tones are provided.
    Tone data can be exchanged with products compatible with the ZEN-Core Synthesis System.
    Tone data can also be exchanged with Model Expansions (JUPITER-8/JUNO-106/SH-101/JX-8P Model Expansions) distributed via Roland Cloud.
    *The Model Expansions just described can be imported into ZENOLOGY for use.
  • Import and Export functions for Scenes are provided.
    SCENE movement between the JUPITER-X and the JUPITER-Xm is also possible.
  • “SCENE > TONE WRITE” has been added to the WRITE menu.
    SCENE and TONE settings can be saved at the same time.
  • A function for initializing system parameters has been added to the FACTORY RESET function.
  • The Remote Keyboard function from a MIDI device connected to a USB port (COMPUTER or MEMORY) is supported.
    Parameters for settings during a USB connection have been added to Remote Kbd in the SYSTEM parameters.
  • Parameters for settings during a USB connection have been added Sync Mode and Sync Out in the SYSTEM parameters.
  • The HOLD pedal can now be used when inputting notes in STEP EDIT.
    This is useful when inputting chords using both hands.

Support for Sound Content Distributed Via Roland Cloud
Installation of Sound Pack and Wave Expansion distributed through Roland Cloud is supported.
*Sound Pack and Wave Expansion are sound content usable on products equipped with the ZEN-Core Synthesis System.
*Some Sound Packs include Drum Kit, but Drum Kit cannot be imported into the JUPITER-Xm.
 
Additional Function
  • EXZ and SDZ Download Content is now supported.
    Please refer to the “JUPITER-X/Xm SOUND PACK/WAVE EXPANSION Install Manual“ for detailed information in the Owner's Manuals.

Additional Functions / Functionality Improvements
  • In the operations in “Editing the Sound (TONE EDIT)”, it is now possible to edit multiple parts simultaneously.
    This is also available during performances.
  • Key Transpose for a pattern input using the STEP EDIT function is now possible by keyboard operation.
    (ARP PART EDIT > STEP MODE: KEYSHIFT)
  • Added the function (L / R Dual) to operate Pan of Part 1 and Part2 at the same time during Dual performance.
    ([SHIFT] + [DUAL])
  • A function for copying parameters between partials on Partial-equipped Models (other than Analog Synthesizers and VOCODER) has been added.
    (Display the copy-source Partial screen, then use the [SHIFT] + [WRITE] + copy-destination Partial button)
  • A screen displaying all key ranges of each part (KEY RANGE SETTINGS) has been added to the MENU screen.
    This is convenient when making settings for split sounds in combination with I-ARPEGGIO.
  • A function for assigning the number of the Scene to recall at unit startup (Startup Scene) has been added.
    (SYSTEM > GENERAL Startup Scene)
  • A function that produces a warning so as to prevent unintended Scene changes (Scene Lock) has been added.
    (SYSTEM > GENERAL Scene Lock)
  • In the STEP EDIT function, it is now possible to input the end point of a Tie by pressing the [SHIFT] + [1]-[16] buttons when the cursor is over the note where you want to input the Tie.
  • The MIDI channel can be set for each Parts.
    (SCENE PART EDIT > MIDI Rx Ch)
    *Along with this specification change, “MIDI Basic Ch” has been removed from SYSTEM.
  • A setting function (USB Audio Thru) for mixing USB Audio In with USB Audio Output has been added.
    (SYSTEM > GENERAL USB Audio Thru)
  • A setting function (AUXIN USB Thru) for mixing AUX IN or Bluetooth into USB Audio Output has been added.

Removed Function
  • The function for setting KEY TRANSPOSE using the keyboard while holding down the [TRANSPOSE] button has been removed.
    *This avoids unintended changes in the KEY TRANSPOSE value when working with the [TRANSPOSE] button.
Tone Fixes
  • The tones produced when the [UNISON] button is set to “on” while using an Analog Synthesizer MODEL were not as intended; this has been corrected.
    In connection with this, the parameter that changes when the [UNISON] and [MONO] buttons are pressed has been changed from “PART” to “TONE”.
  • For RD-PIANO's Preset Tones, the changes in tone due to the intensity of velocity have been adjusted.
  • The Controller Assign settings for some preset scenes have been revised.
    (The JUPITER-Xm is updated with the revised settings when the operation in “Returning to the Factory Settings (Factory Reset)” is carried out.)
    *Returning settings to their factory-default value initializes all settings. Before returning the unit to its factory defaults, be sure to use the backup function to save the current settings.

Additional Functions / Functionality Improvements
  • The ZEN-Core Tone Import function is supported (MENU > UTILITY > IMPORT TONE).
  • SYSTEM > AGING parameters were organized and added.
  • The STEP EDIT function supports the TR-REC input method.
    Also, a pattern created using STEP EDIT can now be played as part of an arpeggio immediately after exiting STEP EDIT.
  • A Keyboard Input Range was added to I-ARPEGGIO. A lead can be played with the right-hand while playing an arpeggio with the left.
  • Interlinking with Apple MainStage is supported.
  • AIRA LINK is supported.
    Audio and MIDI connections to the AIRA MIXER MX-1 can be made using a single USB cable.
  • An Arp Sync function was added to I-ARPEGGIO (MENU > SYSTEM > ARPEGGIO).
    Playing with I-ARPEGGIO's beat or measures synced to an external sequencer is now possible.
  • Drive Sw, Part Level, and AGE were added to controller assignments for SL1, SL2, and the like.
  • The functionality of the [1] through [10] buttons can now be customized when in the PART mode.
  • PITCH, FILTER, and AMP settings for ENVELOPE and LFO can now each be made independently using the panel even during tone play for models other than JUPITER, JUNO, JX, and SH.
  • It is now possible to change the MODEL and CATEGORY by direct cursor movement using the cursor buttons at the MODEL BANK screen.
  • It is now possible to switch TRANSPOSE ON or OFF using the TRANSPOSE button.
  • TONEs were added.
  • Some SCENE settings were changed to support new parameters.
Bug Fixes
The following bugs were fixed.
  • SCENE COMMON > VOICE RSRV failed to function.
  • When multiple categories have been arranged using MODEL BUTTON ASSIGN, only the first category is selectable (version 1.03).
  • The screen sometimes changes to the wrong display when a control is operated while holding down the [ SHIFT ] button.
  • Other minor bugs.
 
[Ver.1.03] NOV 2019
  • The Aging function, by which the sound changes according to the unit's internal temperature, has been improved.
    • The change in sound when Aging is set to ON was modified to change in a more analog manner.
    • The [MENU] > Information screen now displays the unit's internal temperature.
    • When Aging is set to ON, the SCENE screen now displays the virtual internal temperature.
    • An Aging Initial Temperature parameter for virtually simulating the unit's initial internal temperature was added to the SYSTEM parameters.
    • Operation when the assignment feature's AUTO TUNING function is set to ON was modified to change in a more analog manner.
  • Portment Curve was added to the TONE parameters for the JUPITER, JUNO, JX, and SH models.
  • Icons are now used to indicate parts on the display. The display was improved to enable setting status to be understood at a glance.
  • Shortcuts to the respective editing pages were added to the MENU screen.
  • Other minor bug fixes and improvements in functionality were made.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE
  • JUPITER-Xm
  • USB Memory
    *The USB Memory need to be formatted on a JUPITER-Xm.

CAUTION WHEN PERFORMING THE UPDATE
  • Never apply this update data to any product other than the JUPITER-Xm. This update data may destroy the data or system program of other products.
  • Never power-off your JUPITER-Xm while the update is in progress!
    If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the JUPITER-Xm won't be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs.
  • We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update procedure using this system program.

DOWNLOADING AND UNARCHIVING THE COMPRESSED FILE
  1. Read the software license agreement at the bottom of the screen and select the “I agree” check box.
  2. Click the “Download” button to download the system program (jupiterxm_sys_v302.zip).
  3. Unarchive the downloaded file.
    • Windows: Right-click the file and select “Extract All”, then click “Extract”.
    • macOS: Double-click the file to unzip it.
      *Never double-click “KY023_UPA_up.bin” displayed inside the folder after unarchiving.
  4. Copy “KY023_UPA_up.bin” to the level displayed immediately on accessing the USB flash drive (the USB flash drive's root directory).

PROCEDURE FOR THE UPDATE
  1. Turn the power of the JUPITER-Xm off.
  2. Connect the USB flash drive in which you saved the “KY023_UPA_up.bin” file to the JUPITER-Xm.
  3. While pressing the [FUNCTION] button, turn on the power.
    *Continue pressing the [WRITE] button until “JUPITER Updater...” appears.
    “JUPITER Updater...” appears on the screen and the update starts automatically.
    *It takes about 2 minutes for the update to complete.
  4. When the display indicates “Please power off”, turn the JUPITER-Xm's power off.
  5. Disconnect the USB flash drive from the JUPITER-Xm.
    The update operation is finished. The new system program will be run at the next startup. Check to make sure the version has been updated.
*For Ver. 3.0 or later, Write operation immediately after the update may take 1 minute, but this is not a failure.
