S-1 System Program (Ver 1.02)


HOW TO TELL THE VERSION
Please check the version of the system working on your S-1 before downloading the archive file.
  1. Hold down the [ STEP ] button and turn on the power.
  2. The current version is shown on the display.
  3. Turn the S-1 power off.

Additional Functions / Functionality Improvements
  • You can check the sound using the keyboard pads on the MENU screen, function screen, and D-MOTION setting screen.
  • Added "rS.Sh" (Riser Shape) parameter to Riser Mode to change the shape of the envelope.
  • When the [ REC ] button and [ STEP ] button are lit, changing the step with the step pads [ 1 ] - [ 16 ] plays a preview.
  • When "St.(number)" is displayed, changing the step with the [ TEMPO/VALUE ] knob plays a preview.
  • When "St.(number)" is displayed, turning the knob while waiting for CLEAR MOTION will delete only the motion parameter within the selected step.
  • On the pattern selection screen, you can use the black keys on the keyboard pad to check the sound.
  • The ENV TRG setting is effective for the arpeggiator.
  • When the [ HOLD ] button is lit, the arpeggiator will start a new arpeggio each time you enter a chord.
  • All function screens can be accessed from the MENU screen and D-MOTION setting screen.
  • When the [ PATTERN ] button or [ STEP ] button is pressed and the knob is operated, the parameter value can be confirmed while the button is held down.
    This is convenient when you want to check motion changes during playback.
  • Improved motion tracking.
  • Other functions have been added. For details, see the Owner's Manual.
Bug Fixes
The following bugs have been fixed.
  • When playback or recording starts, PORTAMENTO is turned off.
  • Display of ARPEGGIO RATE and P.SCL triplets. ("4t" - "16t" -> "8t" - "32t")
  • LFO Sync, Delay Sync and Riser may not work properly.
  • If Sub Step is set to anything other than "o", the note will always sound even if Probability is 99 or less.
  • When the POLY Mode is "Chd" (Chord), the Voice 2 to 4 settings saved in the pattern are not displayed correctly.
  • When using OSC CHOP when SUB OCT is "-2o.A", the waveform does not change continuously when Overtone is changed.
  • If you select a step and operate the knob to write a motion, it may be written to an unintended step.
  • Executing CLEAR MOTION clears the unintended motion.
  • The S-1's USB MIDI output may not be received by the PC.
  • MIDI cannot be sent/received between S-1 and PC via MX-1 with AIRA Link.
  • Other minor bugs

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE YOUR S-1
  • S-1
  • USB cable
    * The update is carried out with the unit and the computer connected via USB.
    * You can use the USB cable that comes with the S-1.
  • Computer (Windows or Mac) equipped with a USB port compliant with USB 2.0 or USB 3.0.

CAUTION WHEN PERFORMING THE UPDATE
  • Never apply this update data to any product other than the S-1. This update data may destroy the data or system program of other products.
  • Never power-off your S-1 while the update is in progress!
    If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the S-1 won’t be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs.
  • We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update procedure using this system program. Please perform the update responsibly, following the directions given in this document.

GETTING THE UPDATE FILE
Please open/extract the downloaded "s1_sys_v102.zip" file on your computer to get the "s1_sys_v102" folder.
Please make sure you have unzipped the downloaded update file.

PROCEDURE FOR THE UPDATE
Caution
  • You must not rename the extracted file.
  • Never turn off the S-1's power while the update is in progress. Otherwise the system program or the S-1 itself may be destroyed.
Please install the extracted system program file into your S-1 according to the following procedure.
  1. Connect the computer to the S-1's USB port by a USB cable.
  2. Hold down the [ SHIFT ] button and turn on the power.
  3. Open the "S-1" drive icon on the computer.
  4. Copy (drag and drop) the file "S1_UPD.BIN" included in the "s1_sys_v102" folder into the "S-1" drive icon.
    * Do not copy the "s1_sys_v102" folder.
  5. After copying is finished, eject the USB drive on the computer.
    [ With Windows computer ]
    Right-click on the "S-1" icon in My Computer and execute "Eject."
    [ With Mac computer ]
    Drag the "S-1" icon to the Trush icon in the Dock.
  6. Press the [ SHIFT ] button to start the update process.
    The message "OK." will appear on the display when the update process completes.
  7. Turn the S-1 power off.
* At startup for the first time after updating, the display might show nothing for about 10 seconds. Continue waiting until the unit starts normally.
