TD-17 System Program ( Ver.1.02 )


How to tell the version
Please check the version of the system working on your TD-17 before downloading the archive file.
  1. Press the [ SETUP ] button.
    The SETUP MENU will appear.
  2. Use the cursor buttons to move the cursor to System Info, then press the [ ENTER ] button.
    The version information screen appears.
* Don't perform the update if the product is already up-to-date.

Version history
[ Ver.1.02 ] SEP 2020
  • Support for new drum pads was added.
Bug Fixes
The following bugs were fixed.
  • The curve characteristics for VOLUME were corrected.
  • Under certain conditions, user samples failed to be previewed correctly.

[ Ver.1.01 ] AUG 2018

  • Minor bugs have been fixed.

Items to prepare for the update
Following items are required to perform the update.
  • TD-17 itself
  • PC to write the updater to the SD Card
  • SD Card formatted on the TD-17

Cautions with the update
  • Never apply this update data to any product other than the TD-17. This update data may destroy the data or system program of other products.
  • Never power-off your TD-17 while the update is in progress!
    If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the TD-17 won’t be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs.
  • We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update procedure using this system program. Please perform the update responsibly, following the directions given in this document.

How to download and expand the archive file
Download the file named "td17_sys_v102.zip".
The downloaded file is an archive file in zip format. Right-click to select Extract All, and then follow the instructions.
After expanding the file, the folder "td17_sys_v102" holding the file "TD17_UPA.BIN" will be appeared.

How to update
Please install the system program "TD17_UPA.BIN" to the TD-17 by following the process below.

Step 1:Formatting an SD Card
Please refer to the "Formatting an SD Card" for detailed information in the [ TD-17 Owner's Manuals ].
  1. Insert an SD card into TD-17.
  2. Access the SD CARD MENU screen.
  3. Use the dial to select the " SD Card Format ", and press the [ ENTER ] button.
  4. Press the [ F3 ] (EXECUTE) button.
  5. Press the [ ENTER ] button to execute.

Step 2:Backing Up Data to an SD Card
Please refer to the "Backing Up Data to an SD Card" for detailed information in the [ TD-17 Owner's Manuals ].
  1. Insert an SD card into TD-17.
  2. Press the [ SETUP ] button.
  3. Use the dial to select the "SD Card," and press the [ ENTER ] button.
  4. Use the dial to select the "Save Backup," and press the [ ENTER ] button.
  5. Use the [?] [?] buttons and the dial to make backup settings "User Sample".
  6. Press the [ F3 ] (NEXT) button.
  7. Press the [ F3 ] (EXECUTE) button.
  8. Press the [ ENTER ] button to execute.

Step 3:Updating the TD-17
  1. Copy the update-use file ( TD17_UPA.BIN ) to the root directory of the SD Card.
  2. Make sure the unit's power is switched off, then insert the SD Card to the SD CARD slot.
  3. Holding down the [ REC ] button and turn on the power.
  4. When the message "=== update ===" appears, release the button.
    The update starts.
    * You will take about 5 minutes to update. Be sure never to switch off the power before the operation finishes.
  5. When the message "update finished." is displayed, the operation has finished.
  6. Turn off the power.
  7. Detach the SD Card, then switch on the power to the unit and verify that the version has been updated.

    Execute Factory Reset according to the following procedure.
    Please refer to the "Restoring the Factory Settings" for detailed information in the [ TD-17 Owner's Manuals ].

  8. Press the [ SETUP ] button.
  9. Use the dial to select the " Factory Reset ", and press the [ ENTER ] button.
  10. Press the [ F3 ] (EXECUTE) button.
  11. Press the [ ENTER ] button to execute.

Step 4:Loading Backup Data from an SD Card
Please refer to the "Loading Backup Data from an SD Card" for detailed information in the [ TD-17 Owner's Manuals ].
  1. Insert an SD card into TD-17.
  2. Press the [ SETUP ] button.
  3. Use the dial to select the "SD Card," and press the [ ENTER ] button.
  4. Use the dial to select the "Load Backup," and press the [ ENTER ] button.
  5. Use the [?] [?] buttons and the dial to specify the loading settings "User Sample".
  6. Press the [ F3 ] (EXECUTE) button.
  7. Press the [ ENTER ] button to execute.
