V-Combo System Program (Ver.1.12)


This system program updates your VR-09 / VR-09-B / VR-730 to the latest version 1.12.

How to know the version
Before you start, check the system program version of your VR-09/VR-730.
  1. While holding down [ EXIT ], turn power ON.
    * Continue holding down [ EXIT ] until the version information appears on the display.
  2. The version will be displayed at the Display.
  3. Turn power OFF.
* If this shows the latest version, there’s no need to update your VR-09/VR-730.

IMPORTANT
If the VR-09 is at version 1.03 or lower, first run "VR-09 System Program (Ver. 1.11)."
After updating the VR-09 to version 1.11, use this system program to update the unit to the latest version.

Additional Functions
  • It is now possible to save function settings for the damper pedal and expression pedal in each individual registration.
  • It is now possible to select the keyboard touch from among a 5-stage range by using the following procedure (VR-730 only).
    [MENU] button - "Keyboard" category - "Key Touch"
    [SUPER LIGHT]: This is lighter keyboard touch than LIGHT.
    [LIGHT]: This is light keyboard touch. Fortissimo (ff) notes can be played by using less force than with MEDIUM.
    [MEDIUM]: This is the standard keyboard touch.
    [HEAVY]: This is heavy keyboard touch. Playing fortissimo (ff) notes requires a more forceful touch than with MEDIUM.
    [SUPER HEAVY]: This is heavier keyboard touch than HEAVY.
Functionality Improvement
  • When the organ-tone variation is "Jazz Organ" or "Rock Organ," no vibrato or chorus is applied to percussion sounds.
Bug Fix
  • Minor bugs have been fixed.


What you will need to update your VR-09/VR-730
  • VR-09/VR-730
  • USB Memory ( Roland's M-UF2G is recommended )
    * The USB Memory need to be formatted on a VR-09/VR-730.
  • A computer with a USB connector ( Windows, Mac )


Cautions with the update
  • Performing an update deletes all saved registrations.
    Before executing the update, save the registrations to a USB memory device.
    For information on how to save registrations, refer to the following section in the VR-09/VR-730 Owner's Manual.
    • Saving Registrations to a USB Flash Drive (Save Registration)
    After completing the update, load the registrations from the USB memory device.
  • Never apply this update data to any product other than the VR-09/VR-730. This update data may destroy the data or system program of other products.
  • Never power-off your VR-09/VR-730 while the update is in progress!
    If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the VR-09/VR-730 won’t be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs.
  • We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update procedure using this system program. Please perform the update responsibly, following the directions given in this document.


Getting the update file
Please open/extract the downloaded "vr09_sys_v112.zip" file on your computer to get the update files in the "vr09_sys_v112" folder.


Procedure for the update
Please refer to the following procedure to install the extracted system program to your VR-09/VR-730.
Formatting USB Memory
* When you format a USB memory, all data stored in it will be erased.
  1. Turn on VR-09/VR-730.
  2. Connect a USB memory to the "USB MEMORY port".
  3. Press the [ MENU ] button.
  4. Use the [ VALUE ] dial to select "Media Utility." And then press the [ ENTER ] button.
  5. Use the [ CURSOR ] buttons to select "Format USB." And then press the [ ENTER ] button.
  6. "Format Sure?" will appear in the display.
    Press [ ENTER ] button. "Executing..." will appear in the display, and it will start to initialize the USB memory.
    * Press [ EXIT ] to cancel the initialization process.
    * While the "Executing..." is displayed, you must not disconnect a USB memory or turn the power off.
  7. The displayed message "Executing..." is cleared when the USB memory initialization has completed.
    Turn off VR-09/VR-730 and then disconnect the USB memory.

Creating the USB memory for update
  1. Connect the USB memory to the USB connector of your computer.
  2. Copy the extracted "_R053_VR09" folder in the above to the root folder of the USB memory.
    * Copy not each content in the "_R053_VR09" folder, but the entire folder.
  3. Disconnect the USB memory from your computer as follows.
    [ Windows ]
    Use the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows task tray to un-mount the USB memory. And then disconnect the USB memory from your computer.
    [ Mac ]
    Drag the Drive icon of the USB memory into the trash in the dock. And then remove the USB memory from your computer.
Update Procedure

Never power-off your VR-09/VR-730 while the update is in progress!

  1. Leaving the power to the VR-09/VR-730 switched off; connect the USB Memory to the "USB MEMORY port".
  2. Hold down the ROTARY SOUND [ ON/OFF ] and ROTARY SOUND [ FAST/SLOW ] button and turn on VR-09/VR-730.
    The update process starts with displaying on the screen the repeatedly as follows.
    "Updating..."
    * The indicator of the ROTARY SOUND [ ON/OFF ] button will be blinking slowly on updating.
  3. When the update completes, the message "Finished." will appear on the display.
    Then, the indicators of the ROTARY SOUND [ ON/OFF ] and ROTARY SOUND [ FAST/SLOW ] buttons will be blinking quickly.
    Turn off the power of VR-09/VR-730 after confirming the update completion.
  4. Detach the USB Memory and switch off the power to the unit.
